I didn’t make the decision to concentrate on organic traffic lightly. As a single dad juggling a demanding day job, busy kids, and maintaining a household, time is a precious commodity. Even when I’m doing everything “right, carving out extra hours feels nearly impossible.

I’ve heard countless gurus dismiss lack of time as an excuse.

While I understand their point about people often wasting time, the reality for single parents with minimal support is that time is genuinely scarce, no matter how efficiently, we try to use it.

The Allure of Paid Traffic

Organic Traffic, in a nutshell, is the traffic you attract through free methods rather than paid advertising. This includes blogging, social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter), search engine optimization (SEO) for Google, Bing, Yahoo, and participating in forums like Quora and Reddit.

The key is creating valuable content that, over time, draws people to you. Building the know, like, and trust factor with an audience takes patience and consistency.

Initially, I started with paid traffic. The first YouTube video I watched about making money online, touted the benefits of building a website and running paid ads. Soon after, I heard the mantra “money loves speed” and that paid traffic was the fastest path to success.

With my perpetual time crunch, paid traffic seemed like the optimal route.

The Quest for Meaning Through Organic Traffic

However, I’ve now pivoted to focusing on organic traffic for several reasons. When I first embarked on this online journey, I followed an exercise from marketer Dean Graziosi to dig deep and uncover my “why”.

Beyond financial freedom, my core motivation has always been to help people.

The paid traffic I was running, primarily solo ads, was “cold traffic” -meaning I had no prior relationship with the people I was pitching business opportunity (BizOps) offers to. As an introvert who values privacy, I liked the anonymity of cold traffic.

But over time, I realized those people were becoming just numbers on a spreadsheet. Sure, I was still providing value, but it wasn’t as targeted and personal as I wanted.

Other paid methods like Facebook and Google Ads allow more precise targeting but are harder to execute. They still don’t foster the deeper connection of warm traffic built through organic content.

I tried a lot of paid traffic to begin with, in part because I thought I knew what I was doing, and didn’t think it would be that hard. I found out that affiliate marketing and online sales are very different than what I’m used to in my day job. I’ve also learned that affiliate marketing requires building an audience, as you said that can be done through solo ads and building an email list, but again that’s not as easy as it sounds. So I’m going to practice a lot more with the organic traffic before I get to paid traffic.

Thanks for sharing, Nathan. We are in this together. Good luck on your organic traffic journey.

The concept of solo ads I find quite scary. I don’t think they would be my cup of tea. Now that I’ve read about your experience with them, that has definitely put me off. Good luck with the organic strategy. I hope you’ll have the success you deserve. All the best.

Now that I understand them, I will probably add them back into my strategy at some point when it makes sense. You’re right, though; building and audience builds a better foundation from which to branch out.

      Hi, Mike!
You make an excellent point! The traffic gained from organic traffic is much more targeted and warm than paid traffic. I like the layout of your blog. Best of luck to you!

The process of learning and applying the knowledge is key. Gotta do it and learn from the mistakes. Then concentrate on doing better in the next video or blog or social media post! I love that we have a community here!

      • Mike

True. It’s all about optimizing what you have done, learning from your mistakes, and improving on what you’ve done well.

      • Mlaurent12

True. I haven’t always been the best at learning from my mistakes, but that is what I’m aiming for.

Great post, Mike! I really admire your dedication to balancing life as a single dad while diving into organic traffic. Your shift from paid to organic methods shows a genuine desire to build real connections, which is so important. I’m excited to follow your journey and learn from your experiences. Keep up the fantastic work! Thanks, Atif

Thank you, Atif. I think building real connections is valuable to the business. I’m finding that it’s more fun as well. Just doing paid cold traffic is like playing video games by yourself. Eventually, it becomes empty and meaningless. We ultimately need that connection in our lives.

      Hi Mike,
I understand how challenging it must be to balance the demands of single parenthood, a hectic job, household responsibilities, and starting an online business.

So congratulations on your decision and starting your blog.

I have been there in purchasing leads and then realizing that these connections were impersonal and purely transactional because I had not created a relationship especially when our core motivation was to help people.

So now we have that experience to learn from and to share with others.

Your blog isn’t just a platform for content; it’s a space where relationships are formed, and where your audience feels seen and valued.

That’s what I would like to build for myself as well.

I’m excited to follow your journey and see the positive impact you’ll make. Here’s to building a community based on trust, value, and genuine connections.

      • Mlaurent12

It’s great to know I’m not the only one with some of these experiences and that I have a community to share with. Thanks.
